How to estimate a child's weight

Assuming you're working in a place where a scale isn't easily accessible quickly, you can do a rough calculation as follows:

(age [in years] x 7) + 4

That gives you the weight in kilograms. If you want weight in pounds, just use this formula instead:

(age [in years] x 15) + 9


This does not replace accurate measurements if they are available! A better way is to take a growth chart (like the one on the right; remember the one for boys is different to the one for boys!) and to find the average weight for the relevant age.

Of course, you may not have a growth chart handy (!), so the formulae above have their uses.
